Turkey looks for gas from producers other than Iran

Turkey isn’t planning to reduce its current level of gas imports from Tehran but will look to secure further gas supplies from other countries to meet growing domestic demand, said Energy Minister Taner Yildiz, last week.

“We are not thinking of reducing gas imports from Iran because Turkey’s needs are increasing everyday, we are trying to secure more gas supplies [from other producers],” Mr Yildiz told Argus Media on the sidelines of an industry event in Abu Dhabi.

When asked if sanctions would effect gas imports from Iran, Mr. Yildiz said, “we think that situation will not apply to gas imports,” referring to his country’s contract to import 10 billion cubic meters a year of natural gas from Iran.
