Medusa 8 DV Day attended by Greek, Cypriot, and Egyptian Defence Ministers (photos)

The Greek Minister of National Defense, Evangelos Apostolakis, on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, accompanied by the Chief of General Staff of Hellenic Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Christos Christodoulou, Chief of Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Nikolaos Tsouni PN, Chief of Air Force General Staff, Lieutenant General George Blioumis and Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Constantine Masouras as Representative of the Army Chief of Staff, attended the activities of the DV Day of the joint Greek-Egyptian interdisciplinary exercise “MEDOUSA 8” in Egypt.

The purpose of the exercise, which includes the Armed Forces of Cyprus and observers from six countries (Bulgaria, France, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Romania, Saudi Arabia), is to further strengthen the military cooperation of the participating countries .

DV Day’s activities took place in the Maritime Region of Alexandria and included amphibious demonstration teams, close-air support operations by attack helicopters, parachute drops and surface fire.

DV Day’s activities were also attended by the Defense Ministers of Egypt, General Mohamed Zaki and of Cyprus, Savvas Angelidis.

The Minister of National Defense, on the sidelines of the DV Day, had bilateral contacts with both his Egyptian and his Cypriot counterpart. In particular, contacts with General Mohamed Zaki highlighted the need to promote international defense co-operation and initiatives to effectively address the challenges and threats posed by the modern security environment in the wider area of common interest.

The constantly improving bilateral defense co-operation was demonstrated by the systematic implementation of the “MEDOUSA” exercise over the last three years. At the same time, the possibility of further strengthening it, in the areas of operational and individual training, Special Forces, information exchange and the defense industry.
