Macron slams Turkey over Syria

French President Emmanuel Macron spoke in Strasbourg where he is at the moment as part of the Council of Europe’s 70th anniversary events.

Expressing strong criticism at Turkey, Macron pointed to the repression against those advocating human rights and democratic principles in Turkey, which ultimately caused human rights and principles of the state of law to lose ground.

Remarking that Turkey was using the refugees and migrants issue as a means of repression, Macron said they would never bow to this.

Macron stressed that Turkey had to comply with the deal made three years ago, and that they would not accept Turkey trying to make room for itself in Syria by using refugees.
