An IT staffer at Paris’s police HQ killed four colleagues in an attack at Paris Police HQ. At first, it was reported that the perpetrator was on a rampage and no terrorist/political association was involved. However, as it now comes to light the man who stabbed four of his colleagues to death was a recent Islamic convert that has been linked to a radical Islamic terrorist organization.
Following Thursday’s murderous assault which took place inside Paris Police HQ, 45-year-old Michael Harpon was shot dead by police. They then raided his house and arrested his wife Iham.
Thge search of Harpon’s home, police found evidence on his personal computer which links him to an, as yet unnamed, radical Islamist group. Harpon’s wife Iham remains in custody and is said to be cooperating with authorities.
Both Michael and Iham Harpon were registered as profoundly deaf (raising some questions as to conditions of his employment) and have two young children aged nine and three.
Anti-terrorist prosecutors in Paris have now taken over the case, opening an inquiry for “assassination of a public servant in relation to a terrorist enterprise, attempted assassination of a public servant in relation to a terrorist enterprise, and conspiracy in terrorism.”
Harpon, who was born in the French Caribbean territory of Martinique, had recently converted to Islam a year and a half ago. Before the attack, Harpon was a trusted employee who enjoyed full security clearance.
Those murdered during his attack have been identified as General Damien E., 50, Anthony L, 38, Brice L, 38, and Aurelia T., 39.
The investigation is ongoing.
