Iran: Khamenei posts stirring picture of Qassem Soleimani

According to Iran’s top religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Iranian lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed at midnight on Thursday in a US raid near Baghdad international airport, has become a ‘martyr’.

An image on the official website of Khamenei was posted on Instagram showing Prophet Mohammed’s grandson, Imam Hussein ibn Ali, hugging the assassinated Commander of the Kuds Force with blood on his face. Imam Hussein is an emblematic figure in Shiite Islam as the descendant of Mohammed.

The symbolic image is a work by Iranian painter Hassan Rouh al-Amin and was commissioned for the website of Iran’s top religious leader, according to the Iranian Young Journalists Group, a government-friendly news agency.
