HMS Prince of Wales experiences electrical blackout

More than 100 sailors had to abandon Britain’s newest aircraft carrier after it suffered a blackout.

The £3billion HMS Prince of Wales suffered a power outage on Monday in Portsmouth harbour.

Sources blamed a problem with its generators and electrical back-up.

It was considered so significant that non-essential members of the 700-strong crew had to spend the night on their sister ship, HMS Queen Elizabeth.

HMS Queen Elizabeth is due to go on its first deployment next year, with its sister ship following soon after.

Last night a Royal Navy spokesman said no one was injured during the power cut.
